greening brownfield meeting, march 2012

spring is just around the corner which means it's time for the greening brownfield monthly planning meetings! the next meeting is booked for monday 5th march at the teviot community hall, 156 st leonards road, london, E14 0QZ, at 7pm. see below for map. if you're interested in becoming a member of greening brownfield, feel free to come along.

autumnal activity

It's been a while, so we thought you might like to take a look at some of the latest activity in the Greening Brownfield garden.

We scored some free mulch, which will gradually compost down to provide soil to fill our planters, and meanwhile is great as a top dressing to suppress weeds.

The bug hotel is finished, providing a haven for all the creepy-crawlies over the winter. A bug-friendly garden is a wildlife-friendly garden!

 

We have a beautiful new communal flowerbed, and have erected some much needed screening against the A13, which runs behind the garden.

We also have a handy hook for storage. No more hoses snaking across the ground for us. :)

At the entrance to the garden, we now have a beautiful rockery with a solar-powered water feature.

 

And in the shed, we're collecting and storing seeds ready to plant out in the spring.

A big big thank you goes out to everyone involved for all their hard work. Roll on 2012, we can't wait to get growing again!

harvest festival update

Saturday 3rd September 2011 was the Greening Brownfield Harvest Festival. As you can hopefully tell from the photos, a great day was had by all. The atmosphere was relaxed, the food was fantastic and the company was convivial. We'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who made the day happen, especially the Glenkerry crew for the delicious food, and the weather gods for smiling on us in the middle of the wettest week in ages. Roll on Harvest Festival 2012!

harvest festival TODAY!

Today's the day.... it's the Harvest Festival!

The gardens will be open from 11-4 as part of Capital Growth's Edible Open Gardens Day. It's a great opportunity to see how the garden's bloomed over the summer. We have tumbling tomatoes, swelling pumpkins, beds of herbs and some lovely, rangy wild-flowers around the children's area. We also have a sunflower that's nearly as tall as Carradale House (honest!)

Lunch will be served from 1-3pm. We'll have a barbeque serving organic meats plus veggie and vegan options. Please bring some food to share plus whatever you'd like to drink.

There will be a dazzling display of cakes from the Greening Brownfield Cake Club, all baked around a theme of 'Harvest'.

We'll also have a Give and Take Tombola. If you can, please bring a homemade or homegrown item - a bowl of tomatoes, a loaf of bread, a jar of pickle - and enter it into a raffle to swap for someone else's homemade treat.
